Bay Bridge Commute: 2004 - 2012

In early 2004, I shot some random blur-motion photos as I crossed the Bay Bridge traveling between an apartment in San Francisco and our home in the East Bay. What started as a lark on that crossing turned into a multi-year project, as I was struck by how the architectural forms transform when captured. Fascinated by the images’ liquid painterly quality, I knew I was on to something. Over the next eight years, I shot thousands of images on crossings east and west. Varying my approach each commute, I moved from mere impressionism to pure abstraction. These are a sampling of images I included in a printed volume of the completed body of work.
